Summer fever is on the move in school age children all over the world. We have all been there and are very aware of those irritating symptoms that not only affect the child, but all those involved in their school- life journey. Of course, there is only one cure and that is summer break. But there are treatment strategies that parents can apply to help the child push through and reach the end of their school year with success.
- Parents empathize with your child. You have been there! It is likely that you can’t wait until your next vacation. Having someone on your team that “gets it” is often enough encouragement to push a person towards reaching their goals. This is also a great way to validate your child’s experience and strengthen the bonds of communication.
- Give a little more hands-on-support. The additional support from a parent may be just enough to keep the child from falling apart, and enough motivation to help them end their school year well.
- Incentivize your child’s efforts to end the school year well by using external rewards, such as a trip to your child’s favorite amusement park with friends, or an end of the year party. Who doesn’t like to get bonus paychecks as recognition for hard work?
Parents remember you hold a lot of power as to the direction your child takes. How you handle things connected to their world will make an impact on their future successes in all areas of life.
